If you love your furry fairy and want a healthy life from Santa this new year then please avoid feeding new year treats to your dog! Confectionery manufacturers in India never recommend giving their products to the pets since festive favourites can be fatal for them. People are on new year holidays and more homes are full of extra foods, but the confectionery makers have warned people to keep Christmas treats out of reach of the pets.

Festive confectionery products are not meant for your pets since these products have Holly berries, xylitol based sweetener, and mulled wine or alcohol. Other ingredients that could harm your dog are-

  • Apricot (stones/kernel) – The stones from apricots are extremely dangerous for your dogs. You need to keep such treats out of reach of your pet.
  • Holly (berries) – Berries are not healthy for your dog’s digestive system. It causes tremors, seizures, upset stomach, and loss of balance. If you love your dog and don’t wish to make him sick, then don’t feed him such treats.
  • Mistletoe – This food is fatal for puppy. If you have a pup at home, you must keep mistletoe sweets away from him. Such foods cause stomach problems and skin irritations.
  • X-mas and new year cake and pudding –Raisins are dangerous for the pets as they can cause kidney failure. In case your pet is a scavenger, you must keep all left overs in a cupboard to prevent access.
  • Chocolate – Chocolate is a poison for pets. A chemical present in chocolate, i.e. theobromine can pose threat to your pet even if you give them in small amount. Dark chocolates may be nutritious for human but it has more theobromine, which is dangerous for dogs.
  • Sugar free sweets and mints – Sweet mints that have zero sugar are having a chemical named xylitol used to sweeten mints and sweets. This chemical is not good for health of your pet. It is better to keep sugar free mints away from your furry friends if you love them being active and healthy.
  • Cooked bones – Dogs love bones but only if they are raw! Cooked bones of turkey, beef, lamb, and pork can easily splinter and perforate the stomach of your dog. This is extremely dangerous for the pet’s health and you should never feed to a dog!

If you are concerned about your dog’s health, you must avoid giving these foods to him. Confectionery manufacturers in India never label their products as pet friendly. The sweets and candies and treats are made for human consumption and not for pets!
